 Family’s First Resource Center
Purpose: Family’s First Resource Center was created to enhance the understanding and improve the harmony between the needs of children and their families with community resources and support.

SCCAA Family’s First Resource Center offers strategies to build and promote stronger family dynamics.

· Parenting Classes - designed to help parents gain the necessary skills to deal with their children on a day-to-day basis. It equips them with the know how to handle problems or situations that children often face. This in turn will develop skills in the child that will aid them in the decision making process when faced with peer pressure and making personal choices that life brings. Parents acquire knowledge on how to set boundaries, to communicate effectively with their children as well as discipline and/or self control and other necessary skills that will be effective tools in raising their children.

· Healthy Marriages - teaches married, engaged and single persons the importance of marriage. It strengthens the family structure and teaches what it takes to have and retain a healthy marriage.

· Fatherhood initiative - teaches fathers or potential fathers the importance of their role as a father. A father’s role is essential in the lives of their children in order that they may grow to be healthy adults. As a child grows and perhaps marry and build their own families, the presence, provision, protection and teachings of the father will manifest itself in the adult child and their relationship with others. Children need the security that comes from knowing they are wanted, accepted and loved, especially by their father, whether in the home or not.

· “Just Wait” Abstinence Program - teaches children to “just say no” to premarital sex as well as drugs and alcohol or anything that could be potentially dangerous and or unhealthy for them during their preteen, and adolescent years. It teaches them about values and the possible consequences that will result from the choices they make and the lasting effect those choices will have on the rest of their lives.

Educational Resource Center
Purpose: Educational Resource Center was created to provide a better environment for learning and preparation for education and job skills; equipping and encouraging participants to become high achievers academically and socially.

SCCAA serves persons who are low income or disadvantaged, seeking their GED and pre-employment preparation as well as materials to aid in studying for the ACT and the MSAT. It houses a computer lab, resource materials, a variety of books and other information that will be helpful to the general public.

·  The After School Program - Children are served in this program at sites that were geographically located throughout the county. Through this program, most of the children’s GPA (grade point average) improves by 15 – 25%. The program has such a strong impact on the children and their in school performance. Preservation of the achievements for these students who have gone from being below average to average and above is vital for the success of the students. It is our goal to find funds that will enable us to offer and maintain the After School Program year-round at sites throughout the county.

· Summer Enrichment - SCCAA Summer Enrichment Program operates at sites throughout Simpson County. Tutoring in math, reading and public speaking are the main subjects in the curriculum. This program is designed to provide a safe environment in which the community’s children engaged in a set of structured activities that addressed their intellectual, social, moral, spiritual and recreational needs; equipping and encouraging them to become high achievers academically and socially.
